How can we promote learner autonomy?

Here are examples of some of the things that can be done to promote learner autonomy. Which do you think is the most useful?
From the start, use homework (and the way we set it and treat it) as a way of encouraging students to work on their own.
Encourage students to read differently, seeking out general meaning rather than trying to understand every single word in a text.
Show students different ways of recording new vocabulary in the notebooks we have suggested they keep for themselves.
Give students a programme of further study for when the course is over so that they can learn away from the classroom.
Discuss different ways of taking notes.
Give them strategies for listening to their own pronunciation so they can compare it against the model they are aiming for.
Encourage them to reflect on their learning experience through keeping journals, using self-assessment forms or through discussions with colleagues.
